When I finally came to peace with the unsettling nudge of the Spirit and selected the scripture passage for this Sunday, I knew what I needed to do. I picked up the phone and called several people in the church impacted by loved ones who died by suicide. I let them know that the sermon this Sunday would explore suicide from often unread stories about it in scripture; and then I listened. I listened  to their thoughts on this

On March 22, 2020, only weeks into this pandemic and with no clear sense of how long this would last, I rang the bell with my family. I was only just then learning the contours of Facebook Live (the video bears that out with not one but TWO ringings, and some accidental “behind the camera” commentary). We know a bit more about Facebook Live now as it has become a platform for worship each Sunday at 10:30 AM.

I love Ash Wednesday. It is one of the most meaningful services of the year for me. Receiving the ashes in their honest and hopeful messiness is one of the most profound and beautiful expressions of faith I have experienced. Read the rest of the Musings here
