Help Transform the Lives of an Afghan Family Resettled in Lexington
A few months ago South Elkhorn Christian Church welcomed an Afghan family to Lexington, helping them set up a home and begin to learn about life in a new country. They have faced many challenges in their short time here – beginning to learn English, getting their children enrolled in school, and navigating the web of governmental and nonprofit agencies assisting with their resettlement, among others.
The family has faced all these challenges with tremendous patience and resilience. But there is one obstacle that is proving particularly difficult to overcome — the lack of a personal vehicle. Relying on public transit is difficult for anyone, but especially a non-English-speaking family with young children.
During the Lenten season, you are invited to help transform the lives of this family. Our goal is to raise at least $20,000 to purchase a vehicle and pay a year’s worth of taxes, insurance and maintenance. Just 200 gifts of $100 each will get us to that goal. Consider how you and your family could give up something during Lent – a daily coffee purchase or a couple of meals eaten at a restaurant, perhaps – to fund your donation for this family.
