2023 MISSION TRIP

June 12-16, 2023
Nashville, TN
Be The Neighbor

Be The Neighbor is a justice-based service-learning trip ministry empowering youth and adults to put faith into action through service and justice in ways that are relational, sustainable and dignity-affirming, and equips groups with biblical, theological, and social tools to make service and justice a way of life. Be the Neighbor trips include direct service, relational ministry, immersion experiences, and education.  Participants learn from community leaders, organizers, public policy makers, advocates, and neighbors affected by the injustices they are seeking to address.  Participants learn how to be the neighbor, not only through service, but also by learning about root causes and systemic issues, so that they can return to their own communities to serve and work for justice.

Then Jesus asked,

“Which one of these three people was a real neighbor
to the man who was beaten up by robbers?”
The expert in the Law of Moses answered,
“The one who showed compassion.”
Jesus said, “Go and do likewise!”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the focus of the mission trip?

Housing & Homelessness

Nashville, like many cities across the country, is facing an affordable housing crisis; homelessness is at an all-time high. Groups spend the week in Nashville exploring homelessness and the critical need for housing justice. Hands-on opportunities include serving with several area nonprofits working to shelter, permanently house, and establish new foundations with those who are unhoused. Your week also includes a primer on legislation and housing movements that have marginalized communities throughout the city.

What is the cost?

$150 for each participant, youth or adult

This amount is not the actual cost of the trip. South Elkhorn’s Discipleship Ministry area subsidizes the total mission trip cost to make it more affordable for people to attend.

Additionally, each participant will need to bring money for one dinner out and any souvenirs, snacks or personal items.

If the trip cost above is not affordable, especially if more than one person is attending in your family, please reach out to Pastor Holly Fuqua. South Elkhorn does not want affordability to stand in the way of anyone participating in a mission trip.

What are the deadlines to attend the trip?

A non-refundable deposit of $50 is required by March 12 to save your spot on the trip.

This allows for the time needed to secure transportation and make a non-refundable church payment to Be The Neighbor for partner ministry arrangements.

A final non-refundable payment of $100 is required by April 23.
