It’s not the first time in Scripture God came down to see what on earth was going on. And it won’t be the last. Whenever God shows up there’s an odd and wondrous grace.

The people of God are in a time of rebuilding. The prophet calls on them to rebuild their broken community in a specific way: with care and concern for those who are so often oppressed, exploited, and ignored.

Jesus points over and over again to a reality easy to miss, and yet already present: a “new family” that shakes up the world. This is a family in which love is thicker than blood.
